Introduction

Welcome!  We will use this blog to have academic discussions.  This is a skill you will use in high school and even in college.  Remember, this is not Facebook or other social media.  It is an academic discussion board.  That means it is essential to proofread!  This will be a learning process, but I think you will enjoy the discussion.

    Dress Code Research

Our schools have changed so much in the last decade. The dress codes, the school work, etc.; they have made a huge impact on the way our schools run and how they are proceeding, not only are the students starting their career in education, they are also being taught by the school to hide their bodies otherwise they aren’t “good enough”. Throughout their entire school education junior high is probably the toughest because that’s where they are finding their “identity” that’s where they are trying to fit in, so by making them cover their shoulders, or little parts of their legs on their jeans that were designed to have have rips in them, they will now think that they are disgusting because they are showing a part of skin that everybody has. This situation is usually directed towards the girls rather than the boys.

Dress codes are a huge impact on our schools. The style of clothing has changed immensely since 2005, it is now 2016. Some schools have a uniform policy, these schools say they’re higher in academics than a school that doesn’t have uniforms. Even if that is true, the students wearing the uniforms can’t express their personality, identity, and themselves through a piece of clothing that everyone has to wear. Wearing their own clothes lets kids express themselves in ways they couldn’t while wearing a uniform. The dress code shouldn’t be about degrading innocent children, it should be about letting kids express themselves without have to worry about what other kids think of them. I think we should be allowed to wear whatever we want to a certain extent and not having our clothes being chosen for us.

The identity of the students wearing the clothes they picked out themselves lets them express them for who they are. It shouldn’t matter what other kids wear, it should matter how you see yourself whether that’s through a uniform or if it’s through wearing your own clothes that you’re comfortable in. Teachers shouldn’t be concerned about what other kids have to wear to school, their job is to teach and educate us, not to police us on our outfits. Most people don’t understand that some of the reason kids dress the way they do is because that’s all they have. They might have jeans or t-shirts with rips in them, others might have clothes too small or too big for them, but that’s maybe all their parents can afford. No one ever really knows what goes on in every student’s life, they can only hide so much. In conclusion, I think that we should have rules to our dress code but not so critical that everyone has to dress the same because no one has the same personality as the next person, everybody's different.

  2. Emily I completely understand your point, but then again there are a lot of kids these days getting picked on for what they were and when they were there clothing. Personally I disagree with your accusation, I feel as if we all should were the same clothing because then kids would not have to worry about "should I were this or should I were that" because in the end it would save a lot of time, make sure that kids cant pick on them for what there wearing, and finally they can possibly focus more on school and get better grades. As I said you had great points but that's just how I feal
